The truth has come out.
Chuck Todd, former host of Meet the Press, recently acknowledged that mainstream media may have played a role in softening coverage around President Joe Biden’s mental acuity. In an appearance on Piers Morgan Uncensored, Todd reflected on the media’s approach to Biden’s cognitive state, stating that while the topic wasn’t directly addressed, there was subtle coverage that allowed the public to draw their own conclusions.
Todd, who helmed Meet the Press from 2014 to 2023 and was known for his vocal criticism of Donald Trump, argued that many journalists were hesitant to cover Biden’s decline too openly. He attributed this to a fear among some in the press that such coverage could be perceived as inadvertently helping Trump politically. According to Todd, this created a reluctance to report on Biden’s condition in a direct and conclusive way.
He also drew a comparison to former President Ronald Reagan, suggesting that similar signs of cognitive decline went underreported during Reagan’s tenure. Todd emphasized that media figures often faced a dilemma, fearing backlash or accusations of bias if they highlighted Biden’s condition too prominently.
The issue gained broader attention after Biden’s performance during a debate in June 2024 raised widespread concerns. Only then did several media outlets begin to report more candidly on his cognitive state. Before that, some coverage had dismissed such concerns as politically motivated or based on manipulated videos.
CBS News legal correspondent Jan Crawford later remarked that Biden’s cognitive health had been significantly underreported, calling it one of the most overlooked stories of the year. She suggested that earlier, more assertive reporting could have led to a different political outcome, potentially opening the door for a Democratic primary challenge and changing the trajectory of the 2024 election.
