He’s scared that they will lose.
Democratic strategist James Carville expressed significant concern about the upcoming Election Day, urging Vice President Kamala Harris to adopt a more assertive messaging strategy in the weeks leading up to the election. During an appearance on MSNBC with host Ari Melber, Carville stated, “The election is coming on November 5th, and I’m scared to death. I’m extremely worried.”
Carville emphasized that Harris has a limited window of approximately 20 days to enhance her messaging, particularly as Hurricane Milton is expected to dominate news coverage in the near future. He advised the Vice President to take a more proactive approach, suggesting that she should focus on asking questions rather than simply responding to them. “They need to be sharp and aggressive,” he explained, criticizing the current approach of sitting down for interviews on shows like ‘60 Minutes’ and with Stephen Colbert.
When asked if he believed Harris should hold more press conferences, Carville responded affirmatively, stressing the need for her to control the narrative. He suggested that Harris should challenge misleading statements made by her opponents, specifically referencing JD Vance’s comments about President Trump’s impact on the Affordable Care Act. Carville proposed that President Obama, who enjoys high approval ratings among Democrats, could be an asset in reinforcing this message, given his role in expanding health insurance coverage.
As part of his commentary, Carville pointed out that the Democratic campaign has not been effectively countering the messaging from the Trump-Vance campaign. He urged Harris and her team to adopt a more aggressive stance, asserting that they have been too passive in their responses.
Notably, since becoming the Democratic nominee following President Biden’s withdrawal from the race, Harris has not held a formal press conference in the 81 days that have passed. Last week on his “Politics War Room” podcast, Carville criticized her absence from the media, particularly regarding Vance’s remarks about ObamaCare, labeling them as “an outright lie.” He encouraged her to take action and be more visible, urging her to “get off your a–. Move, move, move!”
