Critics Stunned With Elon Musk’s Donations

He has given nearly $75 million.

Elon Musk has contributed nearly $75 million to America PAC, the super PAC he founded to back former President Donald Trump, as revealed in a recent campaign finance report from the group. This filing, submitted to the Federal Election Commission, provides the first public insight into Musk’s political donations this year, amidst ongoing speculation about his financial support for pro-Trump initiatives. With this substantial contribution, Musk has positioned himself among the top Republican donors.

As the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, Musk boasts a net worth of $241 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. He launched America PAC in May, aiming to bolster Trump’s campaign for a return to the presidency. The super PAC is particularly focused on increasing voter turnout in key swing states, including Pennsylvania, where Musk recently joined Trump onstage.

The campaign finance report details Musk’s donations: $14.95 million in July, $30 million in August, and $30 million in September. Notably, he was the sole donor to the PAC during this timeframe, although earlier reports indicated contributions from Musk’s associates, including five separate $1 million donations in June.

A representative for America PAC declined to comment on the filing, which encompasses donations made up until September 30. The PAC had approximately $4 million in cash on hand as of that date, following significant expenditures in the third quarter. Speculation about Musk’s support for Trump has been rampant, particularly after Trump claimed at a rally in July that Musk was providing him with $45 million per month, a figure Musk later contested.

In addition to his significant contributions to America PAC, Musk has made smaller donations to other Republican organizations, including the California Republican Party and the National Republican Congressional Committee. His financial backing of pro-Trump efforts is among the largest this year, surpassed only by Republican megadonor Miriam Adelson, who contributed $95 million to her own super PAC supporting Trump in the third quarter.
