Allergy Hazard Forces Recall Of Beloved Potato Chips

It’s a nationwide recall.

Frito-Lay has recalled a batch of Lay’s Classic Potato Chips due to undeclared milk in the ingredients, posing a risk to individuals with milk allergies. The recall affects 13-ounce bags of the chips sold in Oregon and Washington. While the packaging lists only potatoes, vegetable oil, and salt as ingredients, milk was found to be present, which could lead to severe allergic reactions for those with milk sensitivities.

The recall specifically concerns bags with a “Guaranteed Fresh” date of February 11, 2025, and manufacturing codes 6462307xx or 6463307xx. No allergic reactions have been reported as of yet, but Frito-Lay is advising consumers to dispose of the affected products if they have purchased them in the two affected states.

The issue was identified after the company found that the chips, which are typically made with just potatoes, salt, and oil, had been contaminated with milk. The recall only affects this specific flavor and size of Lay’s chips, and no other varieties have been impacted.

Frito-Lay is offering guidance to affected consumers to contact their consumer relations team for assistance. This recall is a precautionary measure to ensure that individuals with milk allergies are protected from potential harm. The company continues to monitor the situation to prevent further issues.

This recall highlights the importance of accurate labeling, especially for allergens, to safeguard consumers with food sensitivities. It also serves as a reminder for people with allergies to always check ingredient lists and recall notices to avoid any risks.
