Are things getting better?
Former President Donald Trump has responded positively to an apology from Elon Musk, who recently expressed regret over harsh comments he made about the former commander-in-chief. In a brief conversation with The New York Post, Trump described Musk’s apology as “very nice,” though he did not confirm whether he was ready to fully reconcile with the Tesla and SpaceX founder.
Musk, 53, had criticized Trump on social media the previous week, suggesting the former president owed his 2024 election victory in part to Musk’s influence. He also implied Trump may have blocked the release of information related to Jeffrey Epstein due to past ties. Musk later backtracked, saying his posts had “gone too far” and expressing remorse, even deleting the more controversial ones.
In an effort to mend fences, key Trump allies—including Vice President JD Vance and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles—held a call with Musk to discuss his strained relationship with the former president, according to a source. Although unverified reports claim Musk personally reached out to Trump, those claims remain unconfirmed by The Post.
Trump’s own remarks have reflected a mix of criticism and willingness to move forward. He recently accused Musk of having “Trump Derangement Syndrome” and being resentful over his departure from a government advisory position, as well as recent changes to electric vehicle policy. On social media, Trump even floated the idea of reevaluating Musk’s federal contracts. Despite this, he acknowledged in an interview that he holds no lasting resentment and was “surprised” by Musk’s public comments.
Ultimately, Trump indicated that while a return to a cordial relationship with Musk is possible, his focus remains on national priorities. Speaking on a podcast, he emphasized that his primary mission is to restore the country’s strength and prosperity, suggesting any personal reconciliation would come second to that goal.
