She’s a repeat offender.
Svetlana Dali, a 57-year-old woman previously in the spotlight for sneaking onto a flight from New York to Paris, has been arrested once more. This time, she was caught attempting to cross into Canada. Dali, who had taken a Greyhound bus to Buffalo, was stopped by border authorities while trying to enter Canada. The arrest came after she removed her ankle monitor on Sunday, triggering an investigation. The person she was staying with alerted authorities after noticing the device was missing.
Earlier in December, during a bail hearing, Assistant U.S. Attorney Brooke Theodora expressed concerns that Dali might attempt to flee before her trial. These worries stemmed from her previous behavior and the severity of the charges she faces. Dali had previously made headlines when she boarded Delta Flight 264 bound for Paris without proper documentation or a boarding pass in November.
Her stowaway episode saw her managing to bypass TSA checkpoints at multiple airports, allegedly trying to reach secure areas and board a flight without a valid ticket. Prosecutors have accused her of attempting to travel illegally, without the necessary documents or tickets.
This latest arrest has raised further questions about Dali’s intentions and whether she might pose a flight risk. Despite being caught trying to cross into Canada, her earlier stunt of boarding an international flight without tickets or documents continues to be a significant part of the legal proceedings against her. As her court appearance nears, the case remains in the spotlight, with authorities focusing on her escape attempts and unauthorized travels, both of which have led to her current legal challenges.
