The secret has been revealed.
In a book by CNN anchor Jake Tapper and Axios reporter Alex Thompson, it is claimed that public reports on President Joe Biden’s health often contradicted assessments from his personal doctor. The authors suggest that Biden’s physical decline, particularly his noticeable difficulty walking, became so concerning that discussions arose about the possibility of placing him in a wheelchair, but these considerations were postponed until after the election.
The book notes that Biden’s physician, Dr. Kevin O’Connor, expressed concerns that a wheelchair might become necessary if the president experienced another fall. Dr. O’Connor privately indicated that another significant fall could result in a challenging recovery, potentially requiring a wheelchair for support.
To manage the risks, Biden’s team reportedly implemented measures such as using a shorter staircase on Air Force One and providing him with shoes designed to improve stability. Despite these efforts, Dr. O’Connor is said to have expressed frustration, suggesting that the president’s staff was not doing enough to ensure he rested and recovered properly. He reportedly joked that while his role was to keep Biden alive, the staff was unintentionally doing the opposite.
The book also highlights a disagreement within the team following a 2020 incident where Biden fractured his foot. Although Dr. O’Connor announced the fractures were healed after two months of wearing a walking boot, aides later claimed Biden’s slow gait was due to his own refusal to wear the boot long enough for a full recovery.
In response to the book’s claims, Biden’s team denied that his physical or mental condition affected his ability to perform as president. They pointed out that no one had shown any instance where Biden was unable to make presidential decisions or addresses due to mental decline, asserting that the evidence actually demonstrated his effectiveness as president.
