Mayor Caught In Shocking Drug-Trafficking Scandal

He’s facing big time charges.

Tyrin Truong, the 25-year-old mayor of Bogalusa, Louisiana, was arrested on Tuesday in connection with an ongoing drug trafficking investigation. He is facing charges for involvement in transactions involving drug-related proceeds, solicitation of prostitutes, and unauthorized use of personal property. Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill stated that public officials must be held accountable, emphasizing a strict zero-tolerance stance on corruption.

The investigation, which began in April 2024, targeted a drug trafficking organization (DTO) operating in the Bogalusa region. The Louisiana State Police Narcotics and Violent Crime Task Force collaborated with the District Attorney’s Office, Murrill’s office, and the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality. Investigators uncovered that the DTO was distributing various controlled substances, such as opioids, high-grade marijuana, THC products, and MDMA, while using social media platforms for transactions.

Additionally, authorities found that the organization used drug profits to buy firearms, some of which were involved in violent crimes and distributed to individuals prohibited from possessing guns. The investigation led to several arrests, with Truong being one of the seven individuals facing charges. Four others were also charged with conspiracy to distribute drugs.

Those arrested alongside Truong include MacKenzie Lynn Cefalu, De-Saleem Wali Pittman, Dirul S. Pittman, Salehal-Dien Malike Pittman, Tonya Renee Stage, and Devan Michael Williams. The investigation continues, with additional individuals and aspects still under investigation.

Truong, who became the youngest mayor of Bogalusa in 2022, has not yet commented on the charges. His bond has been set at $150,000. Local authorities, including District Attorney Collin Sims, have pledged to continue the investigation and remain committed to addressing crime and supporting the community.
