Deadly Incident At Embassy Sparks FBI Investigation

Was it a hate crime?

The FBI is investigating the recent shooting of two employees from the Israeli Embassy near the Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C., as a potential hate crime. Steven Jensen, assistant director of the FBI’s Washington field office, stated at a press briefing that federal agents are working closely with the Metropolitan Police Department to explore any links to terrorism or bias-related motives.

D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser joined the announcement alongside law enforcement officials, Attorney General Pam Bondi, and Israel’s U.S. ambassador, Yechiel Leiter. She emphasized that the FBI will thoroughly investigate any signs of terrorism or hate-driven violence, asserting a firm stance against antisemitism and terrorism in the city.

The victims, Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Milgrim, were a couple who both worked at the embassy and were shot on Wednesday evening. Lischinsky, originally from Israel and raised in Germany, was preparing to propose to Milgrim, an American employee, according to the Israeli ambassador. The attack occurred during an event for young Jewish professionals involved in foreign policy.

Authorities have identified the suspect as Elias Rodriguez, a 30-year-old man from Chicago. Witnesses reported that Rodriguez fired multiple shots outside the museum, then entered the building and declared his actions were “for Gaza” while shouting pro-Palestinian slogans. Police arrested him at the scene and recovered the weapon used.

FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino described the attack as an act of antisemitic terror, while former FBI agent Jason Pack told Fox News that evidence strongly suggests the shooting was motivated by hate. The investigation is focusing on the suspect’s digital footprint to determine whether he acted alone or had accomplices. Federal agencies are increasing security at Jewish institutions nationwide as the inquiry continues.
