He gave the umpire an earful.
Blue Jays manager John Schneider was clearly frustrated with an early call during Friday night’s matchup—and thanks to a hot mic, viewers heard every word.
In the bottom of the first inning against the Orioles, with runners on the corners and one out, Andrés Giménez faced a 2-2 pitch from Charlie Morton. The curveball landed in the dirt, and Giménez appeared to attempt a check-swing while also gesturing that the pitch may have clipped his foot.
Despite Giménez’s claim, home plate umpire Will Little ruled it a swing, calling him out for the second out of the inning. Schneider promptly came out of the dugout to challenge the call, and their heated exchange was picked up by Apple TV+ microphones.
“He’s saying the ball hit him,” Little explained to Schneider during their exchange. “But we’ve got a swing, so we’ve got a dead ball.”
Schneider, clearly stunned, replied, “How the f—k are you gonna call that?”
The confrontation didn’t escalate further, and no one was ejected.
While Toronto came up empty in that inning, they rallied in the fourth, scoring five runs and forcing Morton out after just 3 1/3 innings in his Orioles debut, taking a 5-2 lead in the process.
