UFC Superstar Announces Presidential Run

He’s entering the race.

Former UFC Champion Conor McGregor announced on Thursday his intention to run for president of Ireland, with a focus on immigration policy as one of his main priorities.

In a post on X, McGregor emphasized the need for Ireland to fully implement the EU Migration Pact by June 12, 2026, and highlighted the legislative steps required to do so. He expressed concerns about the open-border policies associated with the pact, which he believes have contributed to safety and quality-of-life issues in parts of Europe.

McGregor also committed to challenging the Irish government’s approach, stating that any other presidential candidates would not oppose the bill. As president, he vowed to bring the issue to a referendum, asserting that it is ultimately the people of Ireland who should have the power to decide on such significant matters.

In his statement, McGregor reiterated his belief in the importance of democracy and promised to advocate for Irish citizens’ right to have a say in their country’s future. He urged people to support his candidacy, calling for their voices to be heard on the issue of immigration and other policies.

The announcement comes as current President Michael D. Higgins prepares to step down after completing his two terms in office. McGregor’s outspoken stance on immigration has drawn criticism from many EU-aligned politicians, but the fighter has continued to stand firm in his views, emphasizing that he will not be swayed by opposition.
