He is speaking out.

Elton John recently disclosed that he has lost his eyesight due to a severe eye infection he suffered last summer. The music icon shared this news during a charity gala performance of The Devil Wears Prada: The Musical, for which he composed the score. While addressing the audience, John explained that his vision issues had prevented him from attending many previews of the production, but he was still able to appreciate the music.

In an earlier interview with Good Morning America, John elaborated on his condition, revealing that he lost vision in his right eye in July while in the south of France. He added that his left eye is also not in perfect condition, leaving him unable to see, read, or watch anything clearly. Although there is some hope for recovery, John admitted he is in a difficult situation and uncertain about when or if his vision will improve.

Despite these challenges, Elton John has maintained a positive outlook, expressing gratitude for how he has handled the situation. He shared that he feels fortunate and proud of his resilience, even as his vision loss has limited some aspects of his life and work, such as recording in the studio.

John’s determination has not waned, as he continues to work on multiple projects. One of his most notable ongoing efforts is the upcoming documentary Elton John: Never Too Late, which reflects on his life and includes footage from his final North American concert during the Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour. The artist’s commitment to his craft and his ability to adapt showcase his enduring passion and resilience in the face of adversity.
