The wildfires are halting many things.
The National Hockey League (NHL) has postponed the game between the Los Angeles Kings and Calgary Flames, which was originally scheduled for Wednesday evening, due to the ongoing wildfires ravaging the Los Angeles region. A new date for the game has not yet been set. Despite the postponement, both teams are expected to proceed with their upcoming game in Calgary on Saturday as planned.
This postponement creates scheduling challenges, as Wednesday and Saturday’s games were intended to be the final two matches of the regular season for the Kings and Flames. With Wednesday’s game delayed, the league will now need to find an alternative date for the teams to play the rescheduled matchup.
In an official statement, the NHL cited the devastating impact of the wildfires as the reason for the delay and expressed its solidarity with those affected. The league extended its thoughts to the Kings’ fans and the greater Los Angeles community during this difficult time.
Meanwhile, the National Football League (NFL) is closely monitoring the wildfire situation as it prepares for a playoff game between the Los Angeles Rams and Minnesota Vikings, scheduled to be held at SoFi Stadium next Monday. Concerns about air quality and safety remain as the fires continue to spread.
As of now, at least five major wildfires are burning in the Los Angeles area, resulting in the destruction of more than 1,000 buildings. Tragically, two people have lost their lives, and one firefighter has suffered a serious head injury while battling the flames.
