Daniel Jones is done.
The New York Giants are making a quarterback change, benching Daniel Jones in favor of Tommy DeVito, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. With the team struggling at 2-8 and Jones facing a potential $23 million injury clause for next season, the move appears to be a strategic decision both on the field and financially. The Giants entered their Week 11 bye after losing five consecutive games.
In 10 games this season, Jones, the former first-round pick, has thrown for 2,070 yards with 10 touchdowns and seven interceptions. Over his six seasons with the Giants, he holds a 24-44-1 record and made a single postseason appearance in 2022, which was his only winning season. In contrast, DeVito, a New Jersey native, returns to the starting role after a promising rookie year in 2023, where he started six games in place of the injured Jones. During that stretch, DeVito threw for eight touchdowns, three interceptions, and posted a 3-3 record.
Despite signing veteran quarterback Drew Lock to a one-year deal in the offseason, the Giants have opted for DeVito, looking to combine youth with experience in head coach Brian Daboll’s system. DeVito will lead the Giants against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, with both teams coming off their bye week.
