Former NFL star Antonio Brown is facing an attempted murder charge in Miami, according to an arrest warrant issued this week.
The warrant, signed by a judge on Wednesday and released by the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office, accuses Brown of attempted second-degree murder and sets bail at $10,000. Miami police confirmed Friday that Brown has not yet turned himself in.
Brown has not publicly addressed the charge and it is unclear whether he has legal representation.
The charge is linked to an incident that occurred on May 16 outside an amateur boxing match in Miami’s Little Haiti neighborhood. Videos circulating online appear to show a chaotic scene, including sounds of gunfire.
According to the warrant, Florida Highway Patrol troopers working security at the event were alerted to gunshots by bystanders. Multiple eyewitnesses identified Brown as the person who fired a weapon. Officers briefly detained Brown, who was unarmed at the time, for questioning.
Brown, 36, later posted on X (formerly Twitter) claiming he was attacked by several individuals attempting to rob him. He stated that police only held him temporarily and released him after hearing his account.
However, law enforcement later reviewed surveillance footage that reportedly showed Brown punching a man, which allegedly triggered others to join the altercation. The video also purportedly shows Brown grabbing a security officer’s firearm and approaching the individual he had struck.
Cellphone footage captured the sound of two gunshots. The man allegedly targeted by Brown is seen ducking after the first shot, according to the warrant. Investigators later recovered two shell casings and found a security holster missing its weapon at the scene.
The alleged victim, who told authorities he has known Brown since 2022, positively identified him as the shooter. He was reportedly grazed by a bullet near the neck and received hospital treatment for his injuries that evening.
Brown, a former wide receiver known for his time with the Pittsburgh Steelers, has had a history of legal and disciplinary issues. In 2019, he was cut from the New England Patriots after a single game due to sexual assault allegations, which he denied. That lawsuit was resolved in 2021.
Later, he joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers but was suspended for three games after presenting a fake COVID-19 vaccination card. He left the NFL in 2021 in a dramatic mid-game exit, removing his jersey and walking off the field during a game against the New York Jets.
Brown has also faced legal trouble outside football, including a 2020 case where he received probation for an altercation with a moving truck driver in Hollywood, Florida.
