Middle East On Edge As Retaliation Begins

Tensions are exploding.

Iran launched a large-scale missile attack on Israel on Friday, marking a significant escalation in hostilities between the two nations.

In response to the strike, Israel activated its missile defense systems and instructed all residents to take shelter immediately and remain there until further notice. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) urged civilians not to leave protected areas unless given explicit instructions by authorities.

According to regional sources cited by Fox News, Iran fired approximately 100 ballistic missiles. Of those, between five and seven reportedly penetrated Israel’s defense systems.

During live coverage, Fox News’ chief foreign correspondent Trey Yingst was forced to seek shelter in Tel Aviv as missiles hit nearby. Yingst, who has reported from Israel for seven years, described the experience as unprecedented, with loud blasts rocking the area as he and his crew took cover.

The missile barrage followed a major Israeli military operation targeting Iran, amid prolonged and unsuccessful diplomatic efforts over Iran’s nuclear program.

Emergency services reported that five individuals were hospitalized—two with severe injuries. Additionally, four others were treated for anxiety related to the attack, according to Magen David Adom, Israel’s national emergency medical service.

A senior U.S. official told Fox News that the United States is assisting in intercepting Iranian missiles. The official emphasized the presence of hundreds of thousands of American citizens and assets in Israel and affirmed that the U.S. is committed to their protection.

Iranian state media reported that the assault has been named “Operation True Promise 3.”

In a televised statement, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the Iranian public, condemning Iran’s leadership and its threats against Israel. He stated that Israel’s military actions aim to eliminate Iran’s nuclear and missile capabilities and expressed solidarity with Iranians seeking freedom from the ruling regime.
