It’s a coffee scandal.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has recalled thousands of pounds of ground coffee that were inaccurately labeled as decaffeinated. The recall specifically affects Our Family Traverse City Cherry Decaf Light Roast Ground Coffee, which was sold in 15 states, including Colorado, Iowa, Illinois, and Ohio. The bags were mislabeled as decaf but contained regular coffee instead, prompting the recall of hundreds of 12-ounce bags.
The recall, initiated voluntarily by Massimo Zanetti Beverage USA on March 13, pertains only to this specific product and does not affect any other Our Family products. The company has reassured customers that it follows safety procedures and apologized for any inconvenience caused by the issue.
The FDA categorized the recall as “category II,” indicating that while the affected product could lead to temporary or reversible health effects, the risk to consumers is low. The company has taken steps to address the situation, and no long-term health concerns are anticipated for those who consumed the mislabeled coffee.
The recall impacted multiple states, including Kansas, Kentucky, Missouri, and Minnesota, where the coffee was sold in retail outlets. Massimo Zanetti, a major coffee supplier in the U.S., collaborated with the FDA to implement the recall in order to safeguard consumer health.
Although the recall has been issued, neither Massimo Zanetti nor SpartanNash, the distributor of the coffee, has provided any immediate updates or comments on the situation.
