Superhero Show Flop Signals Trouble For Marvel And Disney

The brand is facing massive damage.

The underwhelming performance of Marvel’s Disney+ series Daredevil: Born Again should be raising concerns for Disney, especially given its importance as a reboot of the popular Netflix series. Reports indicate that the show garnered 7.5 million views in its first five days on the platform, which is far below expectations for a series with such a strong fan base and returning original cast members. Despite claims from sources like Variety that the series had a “strong launch,” the viewership numbers tell a different story.

According to That Park Place, which analyzed the data, other underperforming shows like The Acolyte and Agatha All Along managed better viewership in their initial weeks. For example, The Acolyte reached 11.1 million views in its first week, while Agatha All Along garnered 9.3 million, both of which were considered disappointing performances. In comparison, Daredevil: Born Again is not living up to its potential, especially given the anticipation surrounding the revival of such a beloved series.

The poor reception of Daredevil: Born Again could be linked to the growing distrust fans have for Marvel and Disney after a series of perceived missteps. While the original Daredevil series was well-loved for its dark, gritty tone and engaging storyline, the current climate suggests that audiences are skeptical of Disney’s approach, particularly when it comes to changes that may feel forced or overly politicized.

This latest setback follows other recent disappointments for Marvel, including the lackluster performance of Captain America: Brave New World. As noted by That Park Place, Marvel is now facing an uphill battle to win back the trust of its audience. The once-reliable Marvel brand, which could easily draw viewers in the past, is now struggling to maintain its appeal, signaling serious challenges ahead for both Marvel and Disney.
