They don’t understand everyday Americans.
Charlamagne Tha God criticized the Democratic Party for being “out of touch” with everyday Americans and warned them against blaming racism and sexism for their loss to President-elect Donald Trump. Following Vice President Kamala Harris’s defeat, her campaign began to shift blame, but Charlamagne pointed out that the issue went beyond one factor. On “The Breakfast Club” podcast, he argued that the real problem was the Democrats’ failure to effectively communicate with voters.
He explained, “Democrats will be looking for someone to blame, but it’s not just one thing. I believe Donald Trump connects with people’s frustrations better than the Democrats do.” Charlamagne emphasized that while factors like misinformation and societal dumbing down were part of the conversation, the real issues for voters were economic. “You don’t have to be intelligent to know you can’t pay your bills or afford groceries. People might forget what you did or said, but they won’t forget how you made them feel,” he added.
While many media outlets blamed racism, sexism, and other forms of discrimination for Trump’s victory, Charlamagne argued that these factors were not the sole reasons for his success. He acknowledged that some voters were indeed drawn to Trump’s divisive rhetoric, but he believed most people voted for him because they felt he would improve their financial situation and ensure their safety. “It’s the economy, stupid,” he said, pointing out that Trump managed to make voters feel like he could solve their problems in ways that Democrats had failed to do.
Though Charlamagne supported Harris in her presidential campaign, he has occasionally praised Trump’s ability to connect with voters. He also pointed out how out of touch he felt the Harris-Walz campaign seemed, particularly in their focus on global issues instead of domestic concerns. He explained, “They focus on geopolitical politics, and it makes them sound out of touch with what’s happening here in America.”
In addition to his critique of the Democrats’ messaging, Charlamagne praised one of Trump’s ads targeting Harris’s support for taxpayer-funded surgeries for transgender prisoners and undocumented immigrants, signaling his nuanced approach to political analysis.
